New Year's resolution ideas with a Urostomy
Now that 2024 is coming to an end, we may be starting to think about a new resolution for 2025. Whether it be to cut down on chocolate or to exercise more have you thought about making a resolution around your Urostomy or overall health care?
I want to be more organised…
Maybe you want to be more organised when it comes to having your supplies ready and available to use when ever you require them or you want to become better at ordering your supplies at the right time and not over order.
I want to be better at staying hydrated…
Drinking is a crucial part of maintaining our health when we have a urostomy, we are at a higher risk of becoming dehydrated than someone without a Urostomy and it can lead to complications like Urinary Tract Infections or damage to our kidneys, it is recommended that we drink around 6-8 glasses a day. Ideas to improve your hydration- Keeping a log in your journal, setting alarms on your phone/smart watch or using a bottle that is marked with the measurements.
I want to do more exercise…
Maybe you used to be more active before your surgery and since haven’t been able to do so for what ever reason. If you still suffer with pain or fatigue you could start out with something which is low intensity such as a short walk everyday. Having a Urostomy shouldn’t prevent you from running, walking, swimming or going to the gym, just make sure you speak with your Stoma Nurse for advice before hand. Exercise is good for us physically and mentally.
Wishing you all the best for 2025 X0
