Dear Stella Stoma...
My surgery was in July. I had multiple post surgery complications, including a stricture in my left ureter. At first this was treated with a nephrostomy but complications meant this had to be removed and a stent was fitted.
Since having my surgery I've had constant infections requiring IV antibiotics which has resulted in me having 2 MDR bacteria.
Now the hospital are talking about more major surgery to remove the left ureter and replace it with a piece of bowel.
My urostomy was supposed to give me my life back but right now it's taken it away.
Any advice?

Dear Jane,
I am sorry to hear your going through this all currently, it must be extremely hard especially having the fear of the unknown.
I am assuming the ureter is the main reason your having recurring infections even with the stent in place and thats why they are discussing further surgery?
Have you discussed your worries with your surgeon and have they offered any other options to manage the infections?
I understand how you feel right now when you have advised you feel its taken your life away however please remember that theres still hope in things really improving for you.
I myself struggle with chronic recurring infections and I am under a urologist in the North East who specialises in them. Theres no complications causing my infections however it can be difficult to put a plan in place due to the bacteria we grow.
Have you discussed the option of trying antibiotic stoma instillations as a preventative? This could also be an option to discuss with your urologist if you were still getting them after the surgery. The beauty of antibiotic instills is that it has no bad effect on your stomach as it would if you took them in pill form.
Your not going to know how things will be after surgery but you will more than likely ponder on what would have been if you didnt got for the surgery.
I hope this response helps a little and I will add the option for visitors to leave a comment, please let me know how you get on lovely!
All the best XO
